FABS is back and better than ever! After a trial run during the 2022-23 school year, Capital’s very own fashion club has officially returned. Thanks to a new schedule and passionate, dedicated students, FABS is ready to be a symbol of community and inclusion at CHS.
Originally founded in 2023 by Luci Lien, Nola McGrath, and Molly Merchant, FABS stands for Fashion, Art, Business, and Sustainability. Though the club struggled to maintain momentum in the past due to a difficult schedule and limited resources, Nola and others involved in the club are determined to bring it back in full. This year, FABS hopes to include more hands-on activities than they have in the past in order to engage members of the club and the wider CHS community. Club leaders hope that this shift will help FABS become a more active, involved, and well-known organization.
One of the club’s upcoming projects is a collaboration with another student-run organization at CHS to host a thrift sale sometime this February. Luci says this will showcase the sustainability aspect of the club. Other leaders hope this will mark the beginning of a legacy of student-driven initiatives that FABS is involved in that will highlight and perpetuate sustainability and social impact.
For Luci, FABS represents “a safe space for anyone who likes fashion to come together over a shared interest.” Club member Lilliana Perra echoes this; she says that despite the club’s limited resources, FABS has
done a wonderful job of creating an environment where students are “talking with one another with laughter and joy filling the room.” This positive, welcoming atmosphere is one of the club’s defining features.
So far, FABS’ first full year at Capital looks bright. The club’s motivated leadership, combined with the enthusiasm of its members will hopefully secure FABS’ position as a space where students of all backgrounds can express themselves, become empowered, and build lasting connections. FABS strives to be more than just a club, but a community committed to inclusion, creativity, and making an impact at Capital and beyond.
