Senior Spotlight: Mikayla Ablson

Addison Cambern, chs student

After asking Mikayla Ablson to meet for an interview outside of the Journalism class that takes place at Capital High School, anxiety filled me, as we seniors have already had too much pressure on us for our future, but it is understandable as seniors, graduating in mere days, it felt appropriate. Mikayla and I had known each other since sixth grade, meeting at the Boys and Girls Club at Jefferson Middle School, but we only became the close friends we are towards the ending of our High School career.

It may appear biased as I am very close with Mikayla, but who wouldn’t want to be close with her when she  is a hard-working and independent individual everyone knows will leave an amazing and lasting mark on the world, as she has already left one on Capital with her perseverance, kindness and strength.

Mikayla has been a very active person, she has played volleyball for 11 years and played for Capital High School for 2 years, and in club as well, which she’s done for 6 years. Mikayla works with children and is a swimming instructor, which I’ve been told requires a lot of patience. Mikayla enjoys doing art, as she is in a ceramics class here at Capital. Her and I have also painted together in the past and Mikayla is a phenomenal artist. Mikayla also loves singing as she is in choir as well her at Capital. Anytime we go on drives you can catch her belting her heart out.

As I interviewed Mikayla a lot of her answers were from the heart, about giving and being passionate about giving back to people. “Something I am passionate about is giving.” She is also a very compassionate and understanding person as we don’t know what everyone is going through and she understands this. “No matter what, never assume things, you never know what people are going through and treat everyone with kindness”. She’s also a very hardworking individual and has been able to work and strive for her goals with hard work.

Mikayla has been one of the most positive and most supportive people I have met. It’s important to remember to be an understanding and giving person and that’s what she is. Mikayla is always looking out for her loved ones and that’s an admirable aspect about her. She may not have everything figured out, but she is going to go far and make a difference for those around her.
