“Creativity is seeing what others see and thinking what no one else ever thought.” – Albert Einstein.
When you think of an interesting and creative person Araya is the first that comes to my mind. They are very intriguing in many different aspects and overall such an awesome person.
Araya was born in the heart of Olympia surrounded by the music and creativity Olympia has to offer. They moved to North Bend shortly after to then return to Olympia where they are today. They had this constant influence of creativity which I believe made them the person they are today. When interviewing Araya I wanted to go in depth with the questions I was asking to really know them as their authentic self. I started off with the question “What are your hobbies”? To which they replied “I also make the Film Freak zines for CHS film club, and I’m working on the 3rd edition right now. Within the zines I really love writing about film, whether that be movie reviews, critiques of archetypes, or overviews of a topic within film.” As you can see in this statement Araya works super hard to use their creativity to benefit the school and their school club. Araya also states in the interview “The community aspect of the creative scenes in Olympia make me want to stay here and get more involved, whether as a job or just as a hobby.” This shows the true aspect of Olympia and its creative liberties attached to the town as well as its influence on the young adults and kids in the town.
Going further with these questions I then ask them “What is your favorite quality about yourself?” Then they reply “My favorite quality about myself is probably my creativity, which kinda comes in surprises. I go through periods where I feel like I’ll never create anything again, but another wave of inspiration always comes: it’s the best feeling. When I get in a creative flow I feel most like myself.” Araya shows that sometimes creativity flows smoothly and sometimes it doesn’t really show the ups and downs of their creative mind and how it can truly be a learning experience for them in multiple layers of their life. The last question I asked was “
What’s one thing you regret not doing?” Their response was “I wish I’d gotten more involved in extracurricular activities in high school, like theater or the music options we have here. Capital has great opportunities to get involved in stuff like that, and if I went through high school again I’d take advantage of it. The people in those classes are so talented.” Araya expresses here that they wish they got involved more and really dove into the theater program here at Capital.
