Right now at Capital, we have a big sports accomplishment to recognize, the girls Varsity Basketball Team has made it to playoffs! These girls have worked very hard in order to get to where they are, and have faced challenges in doing so. The Playoff game will be held at Mountain View Highschool on Friday Februrary 9th.
According to the Girls on the Team, it has been four years since the Girls Basketball Team has made it to the playoffs. Three years with our current coach, and overall four years for the Team itself. Since we have not been able to make it this far for a while, it shows just how much the girls have strived to be even more successful this season.
When asking how the Season has been for a few of the players, they had differing answers. Maya Allen, a player on the Team said “This Season has been really educational, I’ve learned a lot of moves, and I have created a family with all of these girls.” She is a new player on the team, and has been able to grow from this experience, and has also been able to build a community through the sports program at our school. On the other hand, some of the players had a rough start.
When I asked Zahara Ritchie, a senior player on the Team how the season had been, the response followed, “For me, It came off to a rough start, I broke my wrist during the First Game. So for me, it was nice to come back and get a spot in the Playoffs.” Zahara has been able to recover, and since then is excited for a chance to redeem herself.
Addy Nielsen, another senior on the Team, said, “My Season was also a rough start since Zahara was out, it meant that we werent able to play as well.”
Following these interviews, you could tell that the Team solely relies on teamwork and the community that they build with each other. They have a strong bond, and are proud of the accomplishment they have been able to achieve. For the Players on the Team, this is the first time they have been able to go to playoffs due to the long gap of time between the time they last made it.
Lets cheer these Girls on, and congratulate them for all for their hard work that has payed off.
