Capital High School Theatre is presenting its first play of the year! “The Play That Goes Wrong” is a funny comedic play that students are sure you will love. The show can be seen on October 19th, 20th, and 21st. Tickets are also available to be purchased on our school website. This play is our kickoff, but there will be a fun night set up for free on October 30th in the Black Box theater!
“The Play That Goes Wrong” is a unique, one of a kind. This play is featured to have a cast putting on a play themselves, but goes through all of the technical difficulties that can follow. When I asked what the play further entailed, Kristina Cummins, CHS Theater teacher, responded “ It is very involved, as many of the things that go wrong require a lot of technical talent to make it happen. We have walls that have to fall down, we have set pieces that have to fall over, and we have things that have to break, so we have to then be able to repair them for the next performance.”
Cummins then said, “there’s also a lot of stage combat and careful staging to make sure that nobody actually gets hurt, such as carrying a person in a box and putting them on their side.
In regards to the set, and making of the play, we owe a big thanks to Gabby Vincent, CHS Student, the set designer for the plays we put on at Capital.
The students have had a lot of fun engaging in this play with their peers, and have worked hard to reach the full potential of this play.
Next, I asked Kristina Cummins, CHS Theater teacher why we students should come and watch this play. The response was, “It’s funny, and I would like to think of it as a love letter to theater artists and spectators alike because it just involves all the things that many of us in Theater World have experienced going wrong, actually happening.”
Cummins then added, “This play was on Broadway right before the pandemic, and it was a huge hit, and became really wildly popular. This play is super well attended and gets rave reviews. The script itself is absolutely hilarious.”
Students and Staff alike, think you will truly love this play and it’s a great pick for you if you enjoy comedy. If you would like to be more involved, there will be more showings, and you can also audition for spots in future plays!
