Leaping into the year, many students at Capital High are excited for the upcoming Homecoming Dance. The Dance will be held on Saturday October 14th, in the gym.
At Capital, Homecoming means a lot to many students as it means being able to attend a fun, community event with other students at school. It’s not just any event as it only occurs once a year, and there are other activities to participate in as well, such as spirit week and the Homecoming Football game. To students and staff, it means celebration of welcoming back our students and kicking off a great school year.
When interviewing students it’s important to talk to those that are part of the activities, with homecoming, it involves the Football Players themselves.
First, I asked students what Homecoming meant to them as Football Players themselves. They had similar responses.
Mark Nielsen, Capital High Football Player, said, “I think it’s great that the community comes to support us. It’s fun, it’s loud, and more people show up.”
Dorey Frields, Capital High Football Player, said something similar. “Homecoming means a very big rivalry game, and a lot of fun and connection with athletes.”
While interviewing the players, you can tell that Homecoming means a fun, passionate time for the players where they are able to compete, and have motivation to win at the Homecoming game. The game can also be fun to go out and support and encourage fellow students and bring in the Coug Spirit!
The game will be held Friday the 13th at 7pm. Details can be found in the ASB office.
Next, we talked about the chosen theme… DISCO!
My question asked was, “What do you think of the Disco Homecoming Theme?”
Dorey Frields said, “I feel like there were always better choices, the choices were slim.”
On the other hand, Mark Nielsen said, “I think it’s awesome! It’s one I personally chose, and I’m excited for it.”
Lastly, when asking if Coach Rose encourages football players to attend the dance, Coach Rose, Capital High Football Coach, said
“I encourage them to be part of the Homecoming activities, not specifically the dance.”
Not everyone will always be happy, but this is your cue to vote about topics in school, because your voice matters! Whether you go to the dance or not, you can still have a fun time with homecoming festivities. So seize the day, and have a great time celebrating with our Capital Community.
