The Masters Preview
March 31, 2023
This April 6th-9th is the Masters, one the 4 biggest events in golf. The Masters is part of one the 4 tournaments to create a career Grand Slam by winning them all. The other 3 are The Open, The U.S. Open and the PGA Championship. The Masters being one of the 4 major championships in golf always gets headline news and has always been one of the most important events in golf’s history. Last year the Masters was won by Scottie Scheffler who is currently the world’s #1 golfer. We also have some returning players this year. Some of these guys have won The Masters previously like, last year’s winner Scottie Scheffler, 2021 winner Hideki Matsuyama, 2020 winner Dustin Johnson, 2015 winner Jordan Spieth, and 2019 and 5 time winner Tiger Woods the legend of golf. So far it appears the front runners to win the tournament this year are Jon Rham, Scottie Scheffler, and Rory McIlory.
Jon Rham is a frontrunner in my my opinion as the worlds #3 best golfer. Rham as of 2023 has been on a hot streak and has won 3 PGA tour tournaments, the Sentry Tournament of Champions, The American Express, and the Genesis Invitational. All of these wins surely has to be giving Rham some confidence coming into the Masters as he has been on the top of his game. It is also a huge help knowing that he is capable of winning these types of big tournaments as he won the U.S. Open in 2021 which is one of the 4 major tournaments like the Masters.
Another frontrunner in my opinion is Scottie Scheffler who since the start of 2022 has been on fire and really came out of nowhere to become the world’s #1 golfer. Scheffler is a frontrunner due to his win last year at the Masters but also him getting on another mini winning streak in the couple months winning his second WM Phoenix Open, and The Players Championship. These couple of wins just like Jon Rham should give him the confidence boost he needs to compete at a higher level at the Masters and have a great shot to get his 2nd win there.
The last frontrunner I see winning the Masters this year is Rory McIlory. McIlory was last year’s runner up last year’s Masters and is currently the world’s #2 best golfer right behind Scottie Scheffler in the Masters and in golf rankings. McIlory is sure to come into this Masters with some fire after coming just short and wanting to get his 5th major championship and getting his first masters completing the quad and getting all of the major’s under his belt. Although McIlory hasn’t won any majors in almost 9 years he is still at the top of his game hoping to finally win the Masters.
In Conclusion this year’s Masters is going to be a close call on who is going to win and it is most likely not going to be one of the 3 guys I have discussed. We could easily see some wild cards like Joel Dahmen or someone like Justin Thomas who easily has a shot to win. I can’t wait to watch the upcoming golf matches this April and what the outcome of the Master’s is going to be.
