NFL Draft Preview
January 31, 2023
With the NFL playoffs in full swing, it now becomes a time for many NFL teams to look ahead at the draft to find their next star-studded player. This year there are a lot of good prospects coming into the NFL like Bryce Young, Will Anderson Jr., Peter Skoronski, and many more. This year the Bears hold the Number 1 pick followed by the Texans, Cardinals, Colts, and Seahawks. These top teams will be in a great position to potentially get the next best thing in the NFL.
With the number 1 pick in the draft, the Bears can do anything they want. They believe that they already have the QB of the future in Justin Fields but need help in a lot of areas. I think that their biggest team needs are Edge or interior defensive line players and Wide receivers on the offensive side of the ball. They need these so they can stop the run and get pressure on the QB. And they need the wide receivers to give Justin Fields an easier time and a better chance to succeed. With that reasoning, I think that the Bears should draft Jalen Carter the interior defensive lineman from Georgia. Jalen is a great interior pass rusher with good abilities to stop the run. He helps the Bears partly solve their 2 biggest problems.
For the number 2 pick in the draft, the Texans have a lot of problems to solve. One of their biggest needs is the QB position where Davis Mills is obviously not the answer but they also could use help in areas like wide receivers or edge rushers. But I think that with the good draft position they are going to get the QB of the future and select Bryce Young the QB from Alabama. Although he is small he has great passing ability and is quick and able to get away from pressure.
The 3rd pick in the draft, the Cardinals have a lot of options after a failed season with a lot of questions about the team. They desperately need help on the defensive side and mainly on the edge. With that knowledge, I have the Cardinals picking Will Anderson Jr. the OLB/Edge out of Alabama. Will has been one of the best players in College last year and would give the Cardinals one of the best prospects on the edge in a while.
For the 4th pick in the draft, the Colts get to be on the clock. With the terrible season last they desperately need a new QB, offensive line, and wide receivers. With the second-best QB in the draft still on the board, I think that they are forced to draft CJ Stroud from Ohio State. At this point in time, he is rated just behind Bryce Young, but I think he is better than Young, so I think this is a great pick for the Colts.
Now for my last pick in this editorial, the Seahawks control the 5th pick and I think that they can go in a couple of directions. I think that they either trade back one or two picks or draft Tyree Wilson, Myles Murphy, or Bryan Bresee. All of these guys would give defensive line help. I personally think that Myler Murphy is the best pick but the Seahawks really can’t go wrong here.
Overall I can’t wait for April when the draft season is going to be in full swing. I can’t wait to see the next talent that is entering the NFL and some wild trades that may happen. But for now, we wait for anticipation of the Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Eagles which is no doubt going to be a great game.
