Senior Spotlight: Lani Tran!

Sabina Salcedo

We all know that one person we aspire to be like and that person everybody should have in their Life.

That person is Lani Tran, she is currently a senior at Capital High School and will be attending The University of Washington this fall. Lani is the type of person you want to get to know and instantly become friends with. Lani’s personality will draw you in, and she will guarantee to make you laugh. She is one of the most caring and generous people ever, and her way of thinking will inspire you. Anyone who knows Lani is a fortunate person.

Lani is always passionate about trying new things and believes that being open-minded is essential to Life because “you can discover new foods, hobbies, and interests. If you don’t try something at least once, you might miss out on undiscovered passions. For example, I hadn’t tried sushi until this year, which was a great mistake because it is so delicious,” Lani said.  Hearing this from Lani makes me want to try new things and be able to discover new things. Lani would describe herself as adventurous, genuine and easy-going.“I like to explore new areas, try new things. I think being honest is a valuable skill everyone needs. Also, meeting new people and making connections is comforting to me,” Lani said. Lani is the perfect person to ask if you want someone to join you on an adventure or try something new.

This fall, Lani will be attending The University of Washington and majoring in pre-health science. She chose this major “because I’m thinking of becoming a pharmacist. I know it’s a lot of work and commitment, but I believe that I can do it because of how far I have already come,” Lani said. I also asked Lani what her other plans were, and she said she wants to be successful and aspires to be a person who is optimistic about Life and hardworking. She believes that it is ok to be upset when unfortunate events happen but that it’s important to overcome those challenges. Knowing Lani for so long, I have noticed how hardworking and dedicated she is to everything she does. I’m excited to see Lani succeed in the future and cannot wait to see how far she goes.

I asked Lani what has been the biggest life lesson she has learned so far, and“Life has a lot of highs and lows. When something bad happens, it doesn’t mean the end of the world, even if it feels like it. Taking care of your mental health is the most important thing you can do for yourself,” Lani said. I know that if I ever have something in mind, I can always go to Lani for some genuine advice. She continued to say, “When you are in a stable position your presence can encourage others around you. If you don’t work on yourself then it’s tough to develop into the person you want to become.”

We have all experienced overcoming challenges, and I was curious as to how Lani faces her challenges. She said that she overcomes obstacles by analyzing the circumstance. But she says the ideal way is to be surrounded by friends. And that she doesn’t always believe she is stable enough to act logically and that her friends help her see things more clearly. That. she claims, is what friends are for.

Anyone who has gotten to know Lani can agree that she is one of the most genuine people and will always be there for you. I’m very thankful for having a person like her in my Life and incredibly grateful that I call her my friend. I look forward to making more memories with Lani and am excited to see her succeed and grow.
